The Home Access Program was originally designed to assist individuals and families in locating an accessible home or modifying an already existing one to meet their needs. As the program grew and developed we found an increasing interest in including not only a residential database of realtors and consultants but a commercial one as well.
The Americans with Disabilities Act requires that buildings in use by the general public, such as restaurants, stores, office buildings, apartment buildings and governmental offices, be accessible. Designed to help businesses find commercial space that is accessible or assist them in modifying their already existing place of business, the commercial database is an excellent addition to the growing resource which is the Home Access Program.
Not only is public building accessibility mandatory by law but it is in the best interest of the business to provide this assistance to customers who use wheelchairs or have difficulty getting up stairs.
